States of Consciousness is an ongoing series that explores how emotion, memory, and awareness can be translated into visual form. Created during a period of living away from home and family, the paintings became a way for Harsh Hingu to reconnect with emotions that often remained unspoken. Rather than depicting the external world, the series turns inward, exploring how thoughts and lived experiences can be expressed through colour, rhythm, and structure.

Drawing inspiration from Cubism, Harsh reinterprets the movement by fragmenting emotion rather than objects. Geometric forms, layered compositions, and intuitive mark-making create paintings that communicate emotional states instead of physical images. Each fragment of colour and line represents a layer of consciousness, gradually coming together to create harmony, balance, and clarity.

The first chapter of the series consists of twelve paintings, each exploring a distinct emotional state such as peace, love, strength, light, and hope. As the project evolves, Harsh expands these ideas into larger canvases where multiple emotions merge, overlap, and transform within a single composition. Through colour, geometry, and scale, the paintings invite viewers to reflect on their own inner landscapes and experience consciousness as something fluid rather than fixed.

For Harsh, painting is both a disciplined practice and a form of meditation. States of Consciousness represents his ongoing search to transform invisible emotions into tangible experiences, creating works that encourage presence, contemplation, and a deeper awareness of the self.
