A study of distortion and familiarity, exploring Cubist forms, movement, and intuitive making through fragmented figures and an evolving visual language.

Presence Acrylic on Canvas | 2026 70 × 60 × 5 cm

I made this painting in May 2026 while I was in India, at a time when I wasn’t able to make paintings at the speed I normally do because of circumstances around me. Even so, I wanted to keep creating, and I managed to complete this work.

I used familiar cartoon figures as a starting point and brought them into my own visual language through Cubism and distortion. Distortion became the main idea as I explored how far I could change and break the figures while still keeping something familiar within them.

The painting was made through visualisation and by staying present with the process. I didn’t have a fixed plan. I allowed the figures, shapes and lines to develop as I worked, trusting each decision and seeing where the painting would take me.

For me, this work became a way of continuing to create during a slower period, while also pushing my exploration of distortion, movement and Cubism further.

What if every painting is a mirror?

Can uncertainty become a place of discovery?

How many truths can exist at once?

What remains beyond the visible?

Can art become a moment of stillness?
