Me with My Dogs reflects Harsh Hingu's relationship with the street dogs he cared for while living in India. Created while living abroad, the painting grew from a simple yet emotional question: would they still recognise him if he returned? That sense of distance, longing, and uncertainty became the emotional foundation of the work.

Rather than painting from direct observation, Harsh reconstructs the memory through fragmented cubist forms. The figures of himself and the two dogs emerge from overlapping shapes and expressive brushstrokes, allowing memory to feel fluid rather than fixed. A restrained, darker palette reinforces the emotional weight of separation while preserving the warmth of the bond that inspired the painting.

Harsh intentionally left sections of the underpainting exposed, allowing earlier layers to remain visible within the final composition. These traces represent the accumulation of memory, emotion, and process, suggesting that both paintings and relationships are built over time rather than in a single moment. Through abstraction, Me with My Dogs becomes not only a personal remembrance but also a reflection on the lasting connections we carry with those we leave behind.
