LIVE SKETCH PERFORMANCE WITH SOUL STITCH
Performance & Drawing
Performance through drawing.
A performative drawing practice where observation, speed, and intuition transform fleeting moments into expressive visual narratives.
Live Sketch Performance with Soul Stitch Amdavad Ni Gufa, Ahmedabad, India
After completing my States of Consciousness series, I returned to India and was invited by Soul Stitch to be part of a cultural gathering at Amdavad Ni Gufa. A friend who is deeply passionate about preserving Indian culture asked how I wanted to contribute, and I immediately said, live sketching.
I had never imagined using my cubist visual language in a live setting, especially in front of hundreds of people. As I began drawing, it felt completely natural. The experience reminded me of the freedom and confidence I admire in M. F. Husain’s approach to drawing, while staying true to the cubist language I had been developing in the UK.
Over the course of the event, I created three live sketches inspired by the people, energy, and atmosphere around me. At the end of the event, I donated all three works to Soul Stitch. This project became an important moment in my practice, showing me that drawing can be both a performance and an immediate response to the present moment.
