Hum Aur Tum (Me and You) is a pair of paintings that explores love, companionship, and the quiet moments that exist within a relationship. The title reflects the emotions and memories that were present in my mind while making these works.

These paintings were created shortly after completing my States of Consciousness series. By this stage, I had become more interested in trusting the present moment than planning an image in advance. Rather than beginning with a fixed idea, I allowed the paintings to unfold naturally, following where my instincts and subconscious wanted to take them.

At the time, my long-distance relationship was constantly in my consciousness. Without forcing a narrative, I wanted to see what would naturally emerge. As the paintings developed, figures slowly became couples through my own visual language. Alongside them, a recurring character inspired by the cartoons I grew up with also began to appear. This character has gradually become a way of representing myself within my paintings, returning in different forms and experiences.

In the red and blue painting, the figures became my partner, myself, and the dog I imagined us having one day. In the yellow painting, the image unexpectedly evolved into my partner helping me home while I was drunk. None of these scenes were planned—they revealed themselves as I stayed present and allowed my hands to lead the process.

These paintings deepened my belief that the strongest works often come from trusting the present rather than controlling the outcome. I have made carefully planned paintings before, but these works showed me that when I let go of expectations, something more honest and unexpected can emerge. That discovery continues to shape the way I paint today.
